Analysis: still photo analysis 2

This still photo is from Smile 2. it is a mid-shot, that captures the subject's facial expressions and reactions, which can convey their emotions and thoughts and indicate whether they are confident, nervous, or aggressive. In this mid-shot, the character looks distressed. The lighting is coming from the left hand side of the shot, casting shadow on the left side of her face. The combination of the shadow and her look of fear connote that she is in danger and that the thing she is looking at is what is scaring her. In the mise-en-scene there is a red phone, red connotes danger and again, reinforces the massage that she is in danger. The lighting was separated into two sides, light and dark and this may connote that something is in front of her so may be blocking the light – something that big we would assume is not human – OR it could be linked to narrative (Todorov) and hint at the fact that the equilibrium (light) has been disrupted by evil (dark). The protagonist wearing white also connote innocent and guiltless.
